I'm enjoying doing the bobble stitch and love how it looks but I've just worked out how much it will cost me to finish !!!!! I will get 2 rows of bobbles from one 50g ball of yarn, which only measures 2cm, for a decent size blanket I'm looking at 170cm !!!!
So, doing the maths, I need 85 balls of Rooster yarn altogether at £4.85 which makes the blanket £412. I need to buy another 67, it's a long term project so I could spread the cost over 9-10 months, buying a few balls each month but can I justify spending that much on one blanket !!! I thought my Ripple blanket took a lot of yarn !!!
My dilemma is do I frog what I've done and make a cushion instead or carry on with the blanket, I really don't know. Help, what should I do, I'm edging more towards a cushion but would appreciate any advice.
I'll be back next Tuesday with my decision, I'm off now to check out how everyone else has got on with their One-a-Day's, over at Gingerbread Girl blog.

Naaah, don't frog it. It looks too lovely to this. Buy a few balls every now and then and make it a long term project!
I did the same with my ripple. It's made with Baby Cashmerino, which is rather pricey as well. So I started to buy a ball or two whenever I could afford it. You could ask for wool for Christmas or Birthday or so...
I agree with Maree. Don't frog it. It's beautiful. Look at it as a long term heirloom project and buy the yarn gradually over time.... Oh and make the cushion as well :)
In saying that though, only you know your long-term finances. Will you be able to carry on buying the wool? Not a decision I'd like to make!
It's lovely...such fine colours, and wonderful yarn! I agree with Maree and Sue, if it's possible, try to finish this some day.. and buy the yarn when you can. Even if it's one ball a month, consider the joy when you can put another row or two to this lovely project!
I think you and everybody who sees it, will love it even more knowing it growed on you.
Sheesh! That's a lot of money for one blanket ... why not use it as a border? you could use fabric to make a quilt or knit/crochet the centre ... I'm sure it will look beautiful ether way.
It looks beautiful. I'd say continue as long as you can guarantee you can get the yarn. Nothing worse than getting near to the end and one of the colours are discontinued - been there, done that.

My heart says to carry on, buying as many balls as you can a month, but if you aren't sure perhaps you should make a cushion with the Rooster yarn. Maybe you could use a yarn that is better value for money for a blanket. Whatever you decide to do will be lovely I'm sure.

I say don't frog it either. I think you could turn it into a throw instead of a blanket. Make it a manageable size without such extreme costs. Just go with it until it is a size you can use to throw it over your legs if it is chilly on the couch. And it is soooo beautiful that it will look great on a couch too.
Now for the funny thing...I was going to start the springtime throw but checked and I cannot get the main color I bought for it any longer. I am sure that I do not have enough. So I was going to stash bust by making this same bobble blanket to use up the bulk of my yarn. I too fell in love with it when Carole posted about it. Now I am a little concerned that this too will not work although I would be happy with it as a thrown. How many yards or meters are in your balls of yarn?
I am trying to keep myself from any new starts until I get the second gift ready to send off to my brothers for Christmas. Oh the temptation! :-)

It would make a beautiful blanket but that is very expensive, I can see this pattern being a wool eater. I think it would look just as beautiful as a cushion :) And less expensive too!x

Oh no, it is stunning, but no way can you continue at that price, unless you are very well off! I am making a cushion in Stylecraft chunky with the same blackberry stitch, and I am worried how much I am using at £2 a ball, I have 6 balls and think that is a huge amount, at less than £2 a ball for 100g :o I would say recover the yarn and use for something less yarn hungry and make is a far more economical yarn, perhaps not bobbling every row? Awful decision to have to make though. Fiona x
Oh gosh. I think I would do something small, maybe a baby blanket? The colors can go either for a boy or girl. And I agree with Fiona - to use more economical yarn for this type of project.

Your crochet is beautiful...this will be such a pretty blanket...If you buy a few balls eevry now and again and aren't in a rush to finish I think it will be more than worth it!

It's beautiful, but so expensive! You could try turning it into something else - maybe a cot blanket for a future grandchild? Pj x
Oh but it's so gorgeous, and looks really lovely and squishy. I don't think I could bear to frog it so I'd say just buy a ball or two at a time and carry on long term, unless you can change it into something smaller. I don't envy you the decision. Judy x

Hi, it is oct 16 already and i am not sure you had decided about your blanquet.
It is so beautifull... and i love the color choice you have.
My sugestion is for you to do the bubble stitch mixed with 5 double crochet in btween. A bubble here and there will be still gorgious and would take less material.
