Bloomin CAL..........and the Anzen Crochet Cardigan.

Ok so I've only finished six measly hexagons this week and I'd already done the centres so really I've only added the borders.

I have been busy doing some crochet, though. I received the latest edition of Pom Pom Quarterly magazine last week, again it did not disappoint, I would happily knit/crochet every pattern in there. I was immediately drawn to the Anzen which is a crochet cardigan and I had the yarn in my stash to get  started straight away.
I'm using Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK in grey, black and off white, the pattern uses a sport weight yarn. I'm using a DK and have just done a size smaller, that seems to have worked fine for me. I've never knitted or crochet an adult garment before and have made a promise to myself to start knitting more for myself.

I've also got my eye on the Aureus cardigan, I think I will ask the husband to buy me the yarn for Christmas. The photo is taken from the magazine and I love the colour that they've used, so will probably find a similar colour.

I'm linking this to Chrissie and Marianne's blog for the Bloomin' Crochet Along.

A little update on the vegan birthday cake that I had to make, yesterday. It didn't turn out bad at all, the cake was very moist in the centre, the outside was a bit crispier and a little bit crumbly but it cut up fine.

I mixed the ingredients for the cake, which you can find here, so far so good, the mix tasted very good and the recipe was simple.

My decorating skills aren't really up to scratch but in my defence I had 15 minutes to make the icing and decorate, you can find the recipe for the buttercream icing, here. My niece was thrilled with it and told me I'd got the job of making it from now on, even my brother who pulled his nose up at a vegan cake said it tasted good!!!!!

I'm linking this to Cosmos and Cotton's Weekly Bake, check out Hannapat's gorgeous bake this week.

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend. I'm off to a scrapbooking retreat for the weekend with my friend, Kerry. I'll tell you all about it next week.

Six hexies is a great accomplishment this time of year, Deb! The cardi looks very stylish, can't wait to see more! Thanks too for satisfying my vegan cake curiosity! Enjoy your crafty weekend, Chrissie x

Pretty hexagons! The cake looked good. Great description of its texture and outcome. I can't wait to see more of the adult hooked cardigan. I have hooked a garment before. I can see why you have your eye on that lovely yellow cardigan. You remind me of Xmas wish lists. I love working on mine!

Wow you get so much done Deb. I was just busy leaving you a comment on your previous post when my computer crashed. I love you socks and the baby sweater and I am pleased to see that the cake turned out well. It is tricky making things vegan, so well done! You can always link it into my weekly bake tomorrow if you like. I love the look of that cardigan and I think I am going to have to look into this Pom Pom magazine, it looks great! Beautiful makes! xoxo

Lovely hexes Deb and I love the look of this crochet cardi coming along, very smart and sophisticated it will be! I'm glad the cake turned out so well - that was quite a challenge I think. Have a great retreat, it's such a lovely thing to do - can I come too?
Warm hugs, Joy x

Hi Deb love the crochet you are so clever, I am still on the granny squares - I haven't heard of the magazine before but would love to see what it is like so will keep a look out for it. Love the cardi, like you I would like to get more knitting done but will have to give up sleeping and eating at the moment to fit everything in. Have a fab weekend, look forward to hearing all your news. Lots of love

No wonder you didn't get much done on the hexies. You are flying through that gorgeous black, grey and off white creation. The cake sounds good too.
