Hello my friends, I'm back today to share with you, the test knit that I was working on last week, all I showed you was the yarn I was using!!!
TaDa!!!! It's the Georgie Baby Blanket by Helen Stewart, a beautiful modern deign. I love the simple graphic lines of this blanket. The main section is knit in one piece and then the border is picked up and knit in the round.
It's a very relaxing knit using slip sitiches to create the eye catching stripes so you are only ever using one colour at a time. The pattern is written for sport weight but works with any yarn weight, I used Drops Merino Exra Fine DK. The contrast colours only used about 24g each colour so great for using up those half used skeins.
If you are using a heavier yarn, check the yardage, you will probably need slightly more than the 5 that Helen used. I used 6 balls of the main colour as Drops don't tend to have as much yardage as other manufacturers. I used every little bit of it and was playing yarn chicken until the end, the problem was half way through every new ball of yarn had been joined with a knot so I had to keep cutting them out and joining back to my blanket. I would have had plenty if this hadn't happened, I know Drops is an economical brand but surely that shouldn't have happened with 6 out of 6 balls!!! Never mind, I was probably just unlucky, apart from the knots the yarn is beautiful to work with and very soft, perfect for babies.
Jodie has seen the blanket and loves it, it's all wrapped and tied with a ribbon, ready for the little man to arrive.
Now if like me and you love Helen's designs and would like to win one, she has kindly offered three single patterns for me to give away to my readers!!! Leave me a comment letting me know you want to enter and I will pick three winners who will be able to choose a pattern each, take a look here at all of Helen's beautiful designs. I would love to know you're favourite and if you've knit any of Helen's designs.
This is what I'm currently reading, The Zookeepers Wife by Diane Ackerman, it's part of the summer read over at Camp Aloha Friends, I'm linking this to Ginny's Yarn Along.
I'm now working on the Twinkle Twinkle Blanket, I'm hoping I can get some of my WIPs finished before I start something new, mmmmm I wonder if I can do it!!!! I'm linking this to Tami's WIP Wednesday and Nicole's KCCO.
Have a great week and don't forget to leave a comment if you want to enter the giveaway, I'll leave it open until next Tuesday and will announce the winner on Wednesday, good luck!

Beautiful blankets! They look soft and perfect for baby!
My goodness, that is lovely!
What a beautiful blanket! I love the pattern and I love the colors. Slipped stitches make for such a nice knitted fabric.
Love the blanket pattern...perfect for a little boy or just someone who is less "fussy" in their taste. Would love to win a pattern
I loved the version of the baby blanket Helen showed in her newsletter and yours is equally lovely. What a pretty design it is.
I think my current favourite design is the Fireflies Rising shawl but I'm also loving Pebble Beach the winning design for Brighton.

Mmmmm! that is a yummy ice cream coloured blanket... just perfect. Jo x
What a beautiful blanket, it is such a lovely pattern - I will follow your link and see if I can't buy it for myself!
What a beautiful baby blanket. Not too cutesy. This may become the first blanket that I knit. I would love to be entered into the pattern giveaway. That blanket pattern would be my pick. I really hope to have grandchildren someday to knit and crochet for. I think that time is a little ways off yet. I love the white blanket also.
Gorgeous blanket! I don't have a babe to knit for but I'm tucking that pattern away for the not-too-distant future (my son is wedding next June).
What a great blanket! I also like the stripes---less cutsie, more mod. I know of a few people who'd prefer blankets like that for their kids.
How lovely! This would be perfect to knit for my best friends daughter, she's expecting her first baby in September!
Deb and I have been best friends since we met at ante natal classes whilst expecting our girls 25 years ago! Talk about the circle turning!!
oh what a pretty blanket! we are expecting a baby in our family so i'll have to bookmark this!
What a classy blanket. I'd be proud to make and give one of those to the next grand baby!
That baby blanket is too cute! I love the more 'modern' design and colors!
I'm sorry! I believe I should have added that I would love to win one of Helen's beautiful patterns!
Stunning baby blanket.
Omg this blanket is too sweet!
I do love this blanket design and the colours that you worked it in work so well - beautiful. I have knit three of Helens shawls and have the Radiance and Elemental things in my queue so would love to win either of those. Thank you
Cute blanket, clever design. I would love to own a copy.
I often knit blankets for family and various charities. I would love to win the Georgie Baby Blanket pattern. I like slip stitches but didn't realise they could be used like this.
What a chic blanket. Love it. I need to finish her Afternoon Tea shawl which is beautiful. If I win, is like the Fireflies Rising or the Pebble Beach shawlette.
I'd love to enter the giveaway! I love the Twinkle Twinkle pattern (in fact, I think I've said so in a comment here for several weeks in a row, haha!!) but she also has some gorgeous shawl patterns! She's a new favorite on my ravelry!
The blanket is beautiful. Just enough interest to study and find the pattern. I like the idea that you only work with one yarn at a time. I would like to cast on now. Please enter me in your drawing.
I am really taken with this beautiful baby blanket and its lovely fresh stripey colours, Deb. First look would say it requires a lot of concentration but I was happy you explained otherwise. Perfect for any baby - thank you for showing it to us. xoJoy
I love Helen's designs. Afternoon Tea is one of my favorite shawls and I've knit a couple. Last week I bought Global Nomad. I would love to add Red Robin to my list!
And that baby blanket is charming.
I'd love to win the pattern for that blanket - I love knitting blanket especially ones with a fun modern design :)

I'd love to enter please! I love helen's shawls, afternoon tea is already in my queue, and I really fancy pebble beach, fireflies and frangipani!
I would love to knit the Georgie baby blanket. I have been eyeing it on Ravelry for a few days. It is beautiful.
I love your Georgie blanket, lovely colours and such a cool effect with the drop stitches.
I'd like to enter the giveaway. i especially like Helen's Warm Wishes Hottie Cover.
Totally adorable Deb! Your baby blanket is really beautiful, love the matching tag, the quote is spot on! Whenever I look at your knitwear, I keep thinking, I need to pick up my needles again, I still have them in every possible size from the days where I was not as prolific as you, but where I used to knit quite a few yards every week! If I was to start anew, I'd pick one of those fine shawls, that's for sure! Ira x
Ira’s Crea Corner
Love the simple fresh look of those stripes.
Slip stitches are just like magic.
Good luck with those WIP's.
That blanket has great lines! And I really like the colors you have chosen.
If I had to choose a single pattern of hers, it would be the Twinkle Twinkle Blanket you are working on now.
Thank you!
Deb, this is a stunner of a blanket! I love the modern design, but in the pastel shades it is calm and pretty. Roll on autumn, when I'm learning to knit from a friend I crochet with! Chrissie x
Love this blanket! I've made one by Eliz. Zimmerman many times and I'm looking for something new. This might be it! Thanks.
