Happy Friday, my friends!!!!!! I hope everyone has had a good week. I'm back today as I wanted to let you know about the new shawl pattern by Helen Stewart.
It's called the Whispering Island Shawl, a beautiful DK weight, textured shawl with a small amount of eyelet lace detail. I love this larger size shawl, knit in a heavier weight yarn, it's perfect for those cooler summer evenings to wrap around your shoulders to keep the chill off.
I test knit it in Araucania Puelo, a 100% Llama on 5mm needles. I used just under the two skeins, each one with 220m and I had 18g left of the second skein.
I did find with this yarn that a lot of dye came off onto my hands when I was knitting with it but it was a pleasure to knit with, very soft and luxurious.
I really like the variegated denim blue but I think it would look amazing in a solid colour to show off the gorgeous texture. I don't have very much DK weight in my stash but I will definitely be buying some to knit another one in a solid colour.
We've had a few nice days here in the UK, recently but the temperature drops on an evening so I've been making use of it in my favourite spot in the garden with my knitting and a glass of wine :-)
As you can see here, it's a substantial size shawl, I know this will be much loved and worn through all the seasons. BTW, it is a very quick knit and whizzes off the needles before you know it, I can see that this pattern will never lose its appeal as its a fun, quick knit.
Helen has very kindly offered me a Whispering Island Shawl pattern to giveaway to one of you, all I want you to do is leave me a comment and tell me if you've ever knit one of Helen Stewart's patterns before and if you have which one was your favourite. I will close the giveaway on Thursday morning, the 19th June 9.00am BST.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Deb, love your shawl; it looks perfect in that colourway! Generous giveaway by Helen. Have I ever knit one of Helen's patterns? ... I think we both know the answer to that one! :) As to my favourite; that it a more difficult question as I have loved all of her patterns so far. I think I will have to say the Pebble Beach Shawlette as it was the first pattern of hers that I knitted and I will always remember sitting in the Pavillion Gardens for the group cast on when I wear it. Best wishes, Paula xx
Haven't knit one of her shawls yet but there are quite a few a like. I would for sure knit this pattern for the coming colder months!
It is a beautiful shawl. I don't knit such dainty things but my mum does and she is 60 this week. I have bought here some sumptuous purple yarn for her pressie bag and the pattern would finish it off! Jo x
Hello!! I didn't realise you had a blog although I've been following you on Instagram for some time!! I've just finished Helens pebble beach but it's a toss up between that and her lind cowl which I've made 3 of!! I adore the usefulness of a cowl! But for prettiness it has to be be pebble beach <3 lovely giveaway thank you! xx
Have just begun to make shawls and love the textures in this pattern. I also love your blog and can hardly believe how many items your get on and off the needles in a week!
So gorgeous!!!
Ive never knit any of her patterns but I like the Pebble Beach one, as well as this new one. It's nice to have a shawl you want to make over and over again.
Such beautiful knitting! I have never knit one of Helen's patterns, but that will need to change soon, I found several I simply adore, especially the Pebble Beach Shawl and now Whispering Island Shawl.
Yes, I knit the Pebble Beach shawlette when it first came out using some Knitting Goddess yarn. It turned out beautiful and I'd like to make another from the updated pattern.
I do have a few others in my Rav library as well.
I love this new design by Helen and would love to win a copy of the pattern.
Love the look of your shawl. I have never knit one of Helen Stewart's patterns, but I have quite a few in my favorites. I have been wanting to make a Pebble Beach and now I am enamored with this new design. I would love to win this pattern, thank you so much for the chance.
I haven't ever knit one of Helen Stewart's patterns. Pebble Beach is one of my favorites so hope to get that one started soon. Thanks for doing this giveaway!
I would love this pattern. I have knit the pebble beach shawl eye and live the format of her patterns.
I've knit 2 pebble beach shawls and have to say that Helen's patterns are simply the best to follow. I'm looking forward to having a go at this more challenging pattern as a new-ish lace knitter! Good lick everyone ☺
Hi Deb, I think that your whispering island shawl looks fabulous and feel very tempted to knit it myself.
I have knit Helen's Pebble Beach shawl last summer and am knitting the larger version at the moment.
My secret ambition is to knit a lace weight shawl one day....
Your shawl looks fantastic! I love Helen's patterns, and have knit the Red Robin shawl and Pebble Beach. I'd love to knit this one too! I'm enjoying following you on Instagram, though my Ravelry queue seems to be getting longer as a consequence ...
Hello Deb! (Great name!)
I have never used one of Helen's patterns. I am totally new to knitting. Just starting out and hoping to one day make one of these gorgeous shawls. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.

I never have knit one of her patterns, but I think I should! Lovely.
Hi there. I love Helen's patterns, they're so well written and enjoyable to knit. I've made Calin, Curious Collective 2014 and the Cloud Wrap. I'm hoping to make the Red Robin shawl and the Pebble Beach soon too. I like the sound of a DK shawl that knits up quickly and it looks a good size so it won't just slip off all the time like a lot of my 4ply one skein shawls. Yours is lovely (as is all your knitting!).
All the best, Lynda (lyndathompson23 on instagram, we've said hi there).
I love Helen's patterns. I have knitted Pebblebeach and Fireflies Rising shawls. I haven't knitted a shawl in DK before, I imagine it would be great for cool evenings.
That shawl is just gorgeous! I have not yet knit a Helen Stewart pattern but this one and Pebble Beach (I went looking on Ravelry) look like ones I'd love to try! Blessings!
would like to make the shawl for wearing at the hospital

I am really fairly new at knitting and think this is lovely! I am excitedly exploring this designer. Thank you for introducing her to me. - Sheri
I have never used one of her patterns . Love your shawl and the colours are lovely x

This shawl is lovely, the yarn is gorgeous too! The different stitches are very appealing too. Have never knitted a Helen Stewart pattern before but really want to give this a go, for myself obviously, not to sell as I don't have permission to do that. Anyway, enjoying your blog, found out about it on Instagram, someone I follow there mentioned it and now I'm following you :)
I'd love to give it a whirl. I'm a newbie though......

Love this shawl. It's gorgeous.
I've knit a couple of Helen's shawls and my favourite has to be a Pebble Beach.
I have not yet knit one of her shawls but as I saw the Whispering Island appear on IG I thought this one might be a good place to start....
Your shawl is gorgeous! Love the color. Have never knit one of Helen's patterns but have been thinking about it...listen to her podcast.
Hi, Deb,
I am knitting Helen's Pebble Beach shawl right now. I would love to knit this lovely DK number!
Barbara
I love all of Helen's design but this one has really captured my heart. Your version is gorgeous!
I love Helen's patterns - Pebble Beach, Afternoon Tea, gGlitz at the Ritz, Frangipsni and Candlelit Shawl are all contenders. Glitz at The Ritz is probably my favourite as I made it with my hand dyed yarn and have used it as a show sample with so many complements and sales of my yarn as a result!
I fell in love with your aqua Pebble Beach Shawl! Has inspired to knit this lovely Helen Stewart design.
I havn't knitted any of Helen's pattern but plan on knitting a few when I have finished my WIP. Such lovely things to knit, ☀️😄
Oh yes! I won the choice of one of her patterns on another of your giveaways and it was so hard to decide which! I am not a fast knitter in my stage of life so her Radiance shawl has been a near companion for months. I LOVE it (although not as much at the moment because I dropped a couple stitches and am tinking back to figure it out better, but that just means more time to work on a lovely pattern!). such a well written, easy to follow pattern, I will be knitting more of Helen's in the future!
